Review: Sidetracked Volume 1 gets down to business quickly. Nick bravely goes in on the "Monster" instrumental. When an emcee takes that type of record he is held to a standard. The bar is set high. The question is ... will they do the beat some justice? The answer in this case is YES. Nick swirls around bar after bar as if this beat was crafted for him. He comfortably spits "Lets switch it up, lets do it my way/ I end the WEAK like friday, childs play/ mindstate make a child play on the highway/ just for being irate in my face you lieing fake/" WOW.
This artist has evolved fairly quickly since he started to make a mark on the internet. Another track that showcases just that is "Zippo". Nick again challenges another Jay Z featured instrumental. In this case it was "Light Up". Nick barks at the competition with lines like "ya man will fold when he catches glimpse of the hand I hold/ ya squad a flower garden bunch of pansies next to marigolds/". It's not just all lyrical slug fests on this project.
Nick shows he can make the chicks dip it low, while the fella's get tipsy. "Ride The Wave" featuring Sity is a trippy club record. The hook matches the verses A-Ok. Even though Nick's counterpart (Sity) doesn't do the record the same amount of justice as he did, it's still a keeper. Not everything on "Sidetracked" is A-OK either. Songs like "Single", where Nick decides to use autotune and sing a melody, doesn't please the audience ears.
Another trend that should have been left alone may have been the "BMF" freestyle. At this point any artist that hops on that beat is beating a dead horse. After hearing "Sidetracked Volume 1" it is pretty apparent Nick Nemisis isn't that sidetracked at all. Infact he has is eye on the ball and has a promising future. If Nick stays away from the played out trends (autotune) then he will definatley have his own lane. We look forward to volume 2.
