Review: If you like DJ Webstar and Mims type of music then Carlos Ferragamo is not for you. If you like gritty lyrical east coast hiphop then this is the man for the job. Carlos new mixtape "Hip Hop Music" takes you on a journey. It's almost refreshing hearing some new school talent kicking some real knowledge. The beats on the record range, but Carlos is most at home on a boom pap foundation or a DJ Premier type of production.
When you hear "32 Flares" its straight spit. No time for a breather. This is that on the corner, in the winter, with ya mans, cypher music! Carlos also demonstrates how ill he can get on "Black Jack". Los spits "Get dough from the bars nigga not blow/ number 7's on my feet nigga mad snow/". That type of visual word play is reminiscent of Nas, but with a Bronx twist. If you are looking for some vulnerability and an artist to put himself in a "many men" type of record, then look no further. That record is "Killing Yourself", without a doubt it's a mixtape stand out. Another big big big record is "Things Change", this song has all the New York elements.
A b eat reminiscent to a Rza or a Just Blaze mixture, Carlos spits and it sounds like a young Jay Z, and to put the icing on the cake lines like "I dreamed of killing you when you came into sight/ NO we can't go back, NO we can't make it right". "Things Change" is something almost everyone can relate too. Nothing like a song talking about a friendship turned wrong. One thing you have to respect about Carlos is his vulnerability and him just being him. Alot of artists are concerned with a jail record or an image.
Alot of artists are concerned with a flashy chain and benz. Carlos is anti- pop hiphop. Carlos don't need a jail record, he boasts of his college days. Carlos don't need an image when he gives you his life on a silver platter. Carlos don't need a flashy chain or benz, this type of emcee would rap a bout taking the train with a smile on his face. Whats wrong with being brutally honest? Whats wrong with being a good lyricist? Whats wrong with "Hip Hop Music" .... nothing. Pick this mixtape up!
