“Take it in Blood” is the second single from Life In Amazin’ Times.
This is a far darker record than the previously released single, "Understand."
Jimmy ValenTime, agrees that while the song deals with harsher themes, it still sticks to his honest rapping style.
“Take it in Blood is the most autobiographical record on my album. I wanted to give people little snapshots of the despair and violence I witnessed throughout my life, yet the song is still abstract enough that you can apply your own story to it.” ??
“Take it in Blood” is a reinterpretation of the classic Nas song “Take it in Blood” from the landmark album, It Was Written.
In an age of mimicry without consequence, Jimmy aims and succeeds at capturing the song’s gritty aesthetic, while providing his own point of view.
While most new rappers compare themselves to people who have died, it takes a true artist to take on the challenge of remaking a song from a living legend.
Jimmy ValenTime adds that this was not a calculated move, but more a statement of appreciation to both Nas and hip-hop culture in general. “For every project that I put out, I want to take a classic album cut from someone’s catalogue and add my own perspective.
I want to celebrate the artists that are still here; and show them the respect that myself, other artists, and hip-hop culture has for them”? The remake was produced by Jay Quest who has worked with such notable artist as Skyzoo and Reks.
The song features additional vocals by fellow Bronx rapper, Carlos Ferragamo, which helped give the song, a distinctive retro feel. Carlos adds, “It was good working with Jimmy. I hope that I have the opportunity to work with him again.
He should have let me get a verse, man,” with a laugh. ??? Sometimes, if you want something bad enough, you have to “Take it in Blood.” Take it in Blood (NaS Salute) - Jimmy ValenTime Prod. By Jay Quest, Additional Vocals By Carlos Ferragamo
