Whiplash was born into professional music recording when he was discovered by the 'SAE' music institute's billionaire CEO in Byron Bay Australia 2005. Picked off the street-beach and put into one of Australia's leading recording studios is the story of how Whiplash's professional music career began. Whiplash recorded a cover song 'She Will Be Loved' by 'Maroon 5' in the 'SAE' institute world headquarters studio which later successfully secured him a recording opportunity to record his first professional track produced by the 'SAE' worldwide institute.

The song was later featured in 'Cosmopolitan' magazine and opened a can of worms for years to come. Whiplash's myspace site was featured and ranked number 6 out of 35 up and coming artists in the 'Cosmopolitan' entertainment 'Cool list' a list of things people will be going bust over, finishing in front of 'Jay-Z' labels rapper 'Lady Sovereign' and next to a famous actor called 'Josh Henderson' from the Hollywood movie 'Alpha dog' a 'Justin Timberlake' movie.

'Cosmopolitan' magazine labelled Whiplash "Hotter than Jack Johnson" Album Biography: Hailing from Australia, Whiplash is rising from down under to unleash his lyrical prowess on the States. Fiery but calculated in his flow, Whiplash methodically attacks each and every track much like a veteran boxer punishes a novice opponent in the ring. Effortless delivery mixed with relentless lyricism is a combination that scores a knockout every time.

Years of nomadic living have given Whiplash a plethora of experience and content for his music. Eking out a living and sleeping everywhere from fields to campgrounds to couches to beaches and even on the roof of a café, Whiplash knows what it’s like to come from nothing. Starting from the bottom has cultivated an appreciation for the underdog and gives his music a unique perspective.

He embraces his drifter status and uses music as an outlet to release his pent up feelings about the cold world he’s encountered. After a lucky occurrence on a beach in Australia, Whiplash met a high-ranking music representative and was able to record his first song in a professional studio.

This experience led to an obsession with making new music and Whiplash started recording his own songs. After two short years and over 100 tracks, he was featured in Cosmopolitan and ranked 6 out of 35 up-and-coming artists in the magazine’s “Cool List”. With his new albums Whiplash will be snapping necks all over the world, just don’t sue for excessive head bobbing.

Tell our readers, where your from..

I am from a small town called Suffolk Park in Australia. I traveled around Australia a lot and lived in different countries over the last ten years. I am not from a wealthy upbringing and it has been hard coming from a small town. I do come from a beautiful place, even though sometimes beautiful places are poor towns or countries. My town survives off tourism.

Where did your name originate from?

My name originated around ten years ago, Whiplash was my nickname for a few reasons. I was always into rap music so I used my nickname as my artist name, it’s easier.

What is a typical day like for you?

It depends because it changes from time to time. I love a good sleep in but waking up early gets a lot more done. I have different responsibilities like work or looking for work to get everyone and the government off my back. I have job search interviews every two weeks. I was studying a business course for a few months so I would do that everyday; I guess I can say I am a student. I enjoy my music, the business side of it too. I buy music and freestyle over new music. I love going to the beach once a day. When I am working on an album I will record and mix music for hours everyday 7 days a week pretty much. I see my family and my girl pretty much everyday.

Other then music what do you do to make that paper?

I study to make money and to try to get jobs related to the courses I do. At the moment I get government money to study approved courses. It is tough to find work in my small town; tourists and locals take all the jobs and never leave their positions. I eBay, I buy and sell things.

When did you first become introduced to hip-hop?

In 1999 Hip Hop was huge with all the dope artists out from America, strong artists got me into Hip Hop as a teenager. In 1999-2001 artists had dope albums out like Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre and Eminem to name a few.

Coming up who were your influences in music?

A lot of Hip Hop artists like Eminem, Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, 2PAC, Notorious BIG, Kurrupt, Nate Dogg and more, even a lot of featured artists on these artists albums. I also had a lot of singers influence me, singers like Justin Timberlake, Craig David, to name a couple. They were singing over dance or Hip Hop beats which was dope.

What artists/people in your life intrigued you to get into the business?

All the above rappers and singers, even a lot of musicians and producers inspired me to do this. A lot of people I worked with gave me positive feedback which encouraged me to do this. I love music so it’s only natural for anyone to want to do this if they can or have the chances, opportunities. I had the chances or created the chances so I try to make it happen, at the same time wait for the signs.

How would you describe your style?

I don’t really have a style, if anything I just sing and rap. I am a cross over artist because I could sing and rap over any style of music as long as it has a beat. If not beat I feel like it’s like having no heart, no heart no rhythm. I mainly want Hip Hop music but the music is so mixed with genres now that there is not just one style in many songs anymore, even Pop is Hip Hop now. Music is evolving into a mixed bag which I like.

What artists are you currently working with?

I am mainly a solo artist but every now and then I purchase music with other artists on the tracks. A label I am with said they got one of my songs remixed featuring Lil Wayne. I purchase beats from N8 Beats Production which have artists on the hooks such as Lucky B and Auzriel.

Who would you enjoy to work with?

I would work with any dope rappers or singers. As long as it is easy going and done fast. Don’t even need to meet in person, just do it via the Internet, if I did a live show it would be cool to have the other artists come out with me. I would like to work with any top rappers like Eminem, Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre, Slaughter House, Jay Z, BoB, Drake, Xzibit and more.

Tell us about your current projects?

I have 4 current projects, Losing Control I to IV, 4 albums in a series. I recorded over N8 Beats Productions music. I recorded everything at home and mixed all the vocals to the music and sent everything over to America for final mix and mastering. I currently use N8 Beats music and Beats by Markus, both from the USA. I have been setting up promotions for all my albums in different countries.

What one reason would your fans say separates you from the norm?

I have noticed that a lot of people appreciate how I can sing, some people say I sing better than I rap but I comparing my heart and soul to my mind can’t be similar. I sound so different when I sing to when I rap. If people like aggression, attitude and sickness they will prefer my raps. If people love soul or spiritual feels they will like my singing. Both of my voices come together to create a balance. I would say my singing would separate me from other rappers.

What shows do you currently have lined up for this fall?

I am in the process of trying to get shows, booking agents ext. It is not easy to even get a show so I am focusing on getting all my stuff together so it makes it easier to get those opportunities. If anyone wants me on at a show just email me.

What would you say makes you different than the average recording artist...

The ability to change my voice and do it over different music beats. People say I sing better than the average. I record and mix my songs and I have to do everything myself because I’m not signed to a major record deal.

What's currently in your CD/MP3 player?

I currently have my new album Losing Control IV in my car stereo because I am checking it before final CD production. On my iPod I have new beats from Beats by Markus that I am going to record over in the coming months. I had Eminem’s new album Recovery on in my car for a while, so all good.

What’s your formula, how do you come up with the concepts for your material?

I wrote lyrics for five years about life, comedy, philosophy, psychology, travel, relationships, single life and more to eventually freestyle over beats from USA producers. I usually get new music and just study the beat/music. I record everything free styling off the page, sometimes no lyric pages. I just do what the music tells me to do.

Where do you see yourself in the industry in the next 5 years?

I want to make it as an established artist, whether that is singing and rapping or just one. Not many artists from Australia ever make it out of here so I want to be one of those artists that make it from a country that never makes it. I want to be the biggest rapper singer from Australia to make it. If not I will just quit and just be a fan of music.

Where do you see the industry in 5 to 10 years?

Well technology and the Internet are just revenuing new ways to make it and make money so it is only on the rise. There will always be new talent, the previous talent remaining and new beats, and new music. Music will never die, music is one of the only things that continues to live, live on and evolve yet going back to its roots too.

What final words do you have for our community and the prospects of hip hop?

Check out my website www.WhiplashMusic.com, I do everything myself because I have to if I want to do something. I am a big fan of Hip Hop, other artists, music and I am sure that will show in my work. Hopefully my work will connect to people in one song or another. I do this for the love of it; hopefully the people love it too. Positive or negative I think its all good. I am having fun with Hip Hop, even if I get pissed off or soft I love it all. Come join me.
