A graduate of The Musician’s Institute, A writer, An artist, A poet, A musician, and someone who love’s music so much, it equals life. Like the very air we breathe. Grew up in Camden County, New Jersey 37th and Westfield, and the Delair section of Pennsauken… Not much money, Welfare at one time, a few alcoholic parents, and a life long struggle to make it. Moved to Cali, Florida and figured out that This South Philly native wanted to come back to home… New Jersey.
I worked with many Punk Rock bands and producers such as Trever Keith (Face to Face , Legion of doom) and Chad Blinman (Face to Face, saves the Day, Moneen) to name a few. Produced a Punk Rock record with Chad by “Fell Far Behind” who was being looked at by 4 labels of my doing with my consistent marketing plans and various help to the band as a tour manager/manager. Got really sick of bands and them always folding like a wet paper towel when pressure arose. Got back to my Hip Hop roots. I DJ’d the 1 and 2’s from 16-21 and grew fond of Hip Hop at an early age being in an Urban environment all the time. Met Blackkey aka Flow of Sweden in Cali, He was pretty big in Sweden
in a group called QBN Flow. Sought out after my roots and worked with Blackkey aka flow, U-God of The Wutang Clan, Killah Priest, M80 (world record holder for longest freestyle 9 hrs 15 mins and 15 seconds)..
Also worked with Slimkid3 of The Pharcyde. Continuing my endeavors, working on a record including all of those people among others… Worked with Scott Stallone of FoundSound (Jedi Mind Tricks, Jus Allah, Army of the Pharohs)…and here I am… with the hottest hand I’ve had in a long time, a studio, Joe Marrone (former owners of Antra Records) as my lawyer, M80 a friend and the manager of Redman, Styles P of D-Block, Canibus, Killah Priest, and others all at my disposal when I want 16 bars for a track I see fit. Looking for a label but I don’t need one, Looking for MGT. but I don’t need one, Looking for Distribution but I don’t need it… It would be nice to have it all though wouldn’t it? I want to reach the top and climb higher. Life is a game of inches and I fight for every... last…one of them.

Where you living, where you holding it down? I live in New Jersey, Camden County, South Jersey but mad respect to Philly, I lived there last year and my family is from South Philly, she’s been a great city to me, but I’m holding it down for Jersey and Stockholm, Sweden. That’s where Premavara family member Blackkey aka Flow lives. Premavara(me) and Eagle hold Jersey down with respect to ALL of Philadelphia. Our second home.
What is the significance of your name? Premavara is obviously Italian, my heritage, I changed the spelling to match my last name LacoVARA, but it is my musical family. The Premavara Family. Eagle, Blackkey aka Flow and Premavara… and My new member A.D.D he’ll be announced soon.
When did you first become introduced to hip-hop? Age 8 I bought a Run DMC record, fell in love with the beats, I’m, an avid delta blues follower. Muddy waters, Howlin Wolf, Lil Walter… my dad was a Harp player and Bluesman… So Hip Hop made me feel like I was there…. Growing up on 37th and Westfield in Camden, I was in an Urabn area and Hip hop became part of my life along with all of music.
What artists/people in your life intrigued you to get into the business? Jus Allah of Jedi Mind tricks schooled me a lot to underground hip hop. I really appreciated him always taking time to coach me. Slimkid3 of The Pharcyde also was an influence when I went to MI in Cali for School.
How would you describe your style? Pure Hip Hop. Feel good, positive, conscious lyrics, live guitars and instrumentation while keeping a lot of the true forms of Hip Hop, Drum and bass, hooks that are tight, and just an overall feel good style. I don’t promote rims, Crystal I’m not drinking or girls I’m not getting or Ice I’m not wearing… I want to promote community style music and life. Real life stories that capture the Emcees and singers I work with. We are real and talk about what we know and go through… not about things material we don’t have. I drive a 91 Alfa Romeo. Not a Ferrari although I wouldn’t mind a 355 Spyder. Haha.
What artists are you currently working with? Currently, Slimkid3 of the Pharcyde, U-god of Wutang, Blackkey aka Flow, Eagle, M80, Killah Priest, DJ JD, possibly Chosen the Great, maybe Triune from the West coast… All great people, artists, and musicians.
Who would you enjoy to work with? Questlove of the Roots along with Black Thought… I’m a big fan of the Roots and Philly in general. Lil Wayne and Drake, Canibus would be great… Jus Allah of AOTP and Jedi Mind Tricks, he is a great emcee, one of the greats of our time I believe. His new record is going to be ridiculous. But Jedi Mind tricks would be a dream… Those guys are on fire right now and they light up everything they touch. Jus, Vinnie Paz, Stoupe, DJ Kwestion, anyone of those guys in those crews would just be sick. A dream come true.
Tell us about your current projects? I’m working on a Single for Sweden right now with “The Streets” feat U-God of Wutang and Blackkey aka Flow of Sweden. That and My album “PremAmerica” due out in Nov of 2010.
What single are you promoting the most? 2 actually, “City Life” featuring Slimkid3 of the Pharcyde, pure hip hop, and “The Streets” which I had just mentioned above in Sweden.
Who is doing the production? I am the producer for the most part but big shout out to Scott Stallone of FoundSound who mixed the 2 singes and definitely co-produced “The Streets”… and ACmastering for the mastering of the singles for Sweden. Mad shout outs to both.
Who producers would you enjoy to work? Dan Korneff is my engineer hero, and shout outs to Kato, John, Dan, and Dave at House of Loud, but Stoupe would be one of the producers I would love to collab with and Lil Wayne and his team would be a dream come true as well.
What one reason would your fans say separates you from the norm? Live Instrumentation keeps my beats and songwriting fresh. The ability to play guitar and bass really helps me be creative and just an overall “Realness” to Hip Hop that I produce and write with the people I do it with. I transcend my music through my writing of who I am as a person and how I live.
Will you be doing any touring? Maybe some college DJ shows or Sweden shows but nothing planned.
What shows/events do you have lined up for summer 2010? DJ-ing at Club Octo on Delaware Ave (My favorite clube in Philly) a few dates, some big house parties with DJ JD, and just playing it by ear, day to day ya know.
What would you say makes you different from the average MC? Well I’m a music maker, singer, hook man and writer, but I’m no Emcee. Eagle and the people I work with emcee on Premavara tracks. But Eagle, My main Emcee of “The Premavara Family” spits about everyday struggles of life, real SH*T, real things… no bling. He has a flow that rides a beat like another instrument so he is very different. It is why I locked him down in the group.
What emcee's do you currently listen to? There’s so many. Jus Allah, Black Thought, Slimkid3, Lupe Fiasco, Eagle, Canibus, KRS-ONE, Vinnie Paz, Block McCloud, Redman is one of my favorites of all time….M80, Killah Priest, 60 Second Assassin, Papoose, Lil wayne, Enimem, Drake, just a lot of different stuff but the classic hip ho
p too. QTip and Tribe called Quest, always De La Soul, The Roots overall and Army of the Pharaohs overall…and of course Eagle my main Emcee… too many to list.
What’s your formula, how do you come up with the concepts for your material? I wait for inspiration… harness the feeling and emotion of what I want to get across in the beat, and the Emcees usually do the same. Post-production if it is needed and it comes out shining.
Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years in hip-hop? As a bigger producer/beat maker, possible record label owner. Still running with my boys in “The Premavara Family” , We’ll see. I’m humble so I’ll take every inch Hip Hop gives me with love and respect.
Where do you see hip-hop in 5 to 10 years? Soaring higher then ever like an Eagle without auto tune. Jay Z said it best when he said kill auto tune. It’s awesome in moderation… but every line in every song is too much. Haha. Sorry guys.
What final words do you have for our community and the prospects of hip hop? Thank you for allowing me and accepting me into the community, and much respect to the artists of all kinds, and keep the
true culture of Hip Hop alive. No matter what you look like or who you are, dreams equal breathing, and the last time I checked, you
need to breathe to live. I’m breathing, eating, and sleeping Hip Hop. One. “I will work with anyone who has the drive, ambition, and dreams to go to places in music. I want to make groundbreaking music and be a man who goes into music history for his endeavors.” -Premavara
