“May 28th, 1987 a lyricist was born in Fayetteville, NC. Growing up in the Commonwealth of Virginia as the years went by her family and peers did not know she would grow to be the lyricist she is today.
Born Shantale Person, she began writing at the young age of 8. Being brought up by a very poetic mother she learned to express her emotions through poetry and song.
When she first began writing it was out of fun, a mere hobby. But as years continued rap became the outlook of her pain.
It wasn’t until her high school years that she picked up the name Ms Proper. Representing that name through swagger, fashion, and lyrics, Ms Proper always knew that she wanted to become known through her music and so she created the label So Proper Entertainment.
Through the beginning stages of this journey there were a lot of ups and downs and a lot of people who came and went.
Now, standing strong with the So Proper ENT family they are ready to enter the industry strong with Ms Proper as the leader. She gives the people what they want to hear and brings them not only music they can dance to but music they can also relate to. With each song her listeners take away a small piece of her. Now residing in Richmond, VA Ms Proper is always on the microphone and always ready for her next challenge.”
We first seen you first making your mark last year from shows to high profile mixtape appearances. Alot of times artists fizzle out .... that's not the case with you. Have you had anytimes you wanted to throw in the towel?
Never, I won’t act like there isn’t a lot an artist goes through on this path but it’s a path I enjoy taking it no matter what speed bumps I encounter.
We heard that you are going to appear on 106 and Park! That's huge news. Can you tell us how that came about?
YES! I’m so excited about this. Basically my manager was in charge of booking the audition. My team and I had to travel to South Carolina twice, once for the prescreening and another for the actual audition. There were maybe 20 artists auditioning and the creator of Wild Out Wednesday, Pat Charles, ended up picking 3, I happened to be a part of the lucky trio.
We know you are no stranger to doing shows ... what songs are you planning on rocking for this show?
Well I have limited time on stage so I’m going for what me and my hypemen, Concise and NSane Da Genya Bread Man, know best and that’s “Make A Move”. It’s a song we always perform no matter where we are and the crowd always loves it.

So you are on 106 and Park, you opened for Young Money in Brooklyn ... is the travel from Virginia to New York getting annoying yet (laughs)?
Honestly I enjoy those trips. There are usually about 5 people in my car alone so we split the driving time evenly which makes it easier to cope with. The traffic in New York is the craziest so I refuse to drive in the city anyway. Haha.
Did you ever think about relocation?
I can’t lie I do. I’ve been in the same area of Virginia for years and a change of scenery would be nice. However, I’ve built such a buzz and a name for myself here I’m not willing to leave that behind just yet.
Do you think as a female emcee the odds are against you?
Yes and no. Due to the fact that I am a female a lot of people are amazed when they get to hear my music. BUT the bad part is that because I’m a female people initially laugh given my small frame. The change in attitude and facial expression on those who doubt after they hear me is incredible.
What was the tipping point where you said you want to do this?
Well, after I appeared on Concise’s first mixtape, Brief Description, and dropped one of my own, Addicted To The Game, I started taking it a lot more serious. It wasn’t until I performed at my first show that sealed the deal. The adrenaline I received from being one stage is one I can’t walk away from.
What made you start "So Proper Ent."?
I knew even in middle school I wanted to have my own record label so it was natural for me to start So Proper Entertainment. I had a passion for music, a vision, and talented friends. With our chemistry, I knew we could make it.
Is there anyone on that label other then yourself?
Yes, the other emcees are Concise, NSane Da Genya Bread Man, E*Klipse Tha Champloo, and So !LLa. On the R&B side of things we have Tre and T*Starz.
What projects have you released to date?
My first mixtape, Addicted To The Game, was released in January of 2007. From there I released The Wake Up which was released in July of 2009. Then in May of 2010 I released Proper Etiquette.
Do you have any new mixtapes or albums coming out anytime soon?
I have a new mixtape being released July 2nd on www.MsProper.net and it is titled #NoDaysOff. I personally feel it is my best mixtape to date so I’m extremely excited about its release. I also have DJ White Owl hosting the tape so it is great being able to work with him.
Lets switch it up a bit ... we are gonna ask some random questions to let the HHO viewers see a different side of Ms. Proper.... here we go... Is this J. Cole album ever gonna drop?
Haha. I love J.Cole I really do but who knows. I would love to see him release a project but he is still underrated so he is going to have to really bring it.
What do you think of the new Bad Meets Evil EP that dropped?
The actual record “Bad Meets Evil” Eminem had on the Slim Shady LP is actually one of my favorites so I was excited to see how an entire album would come about. I personally enjoy the album off of the strength that it is an Eminem project. In my eyes he can do no wrong. Haha.
Should Anthony Weiner resign?
I’m sure he’s not the only one in this position. He’s just the only one who got caught. You can’t trust a politician anyway so let that man cook.
How would you rate President Obama's performance so far 1 thru 10? and would you vote for him again?
On a scale of 1-10 I’ll give him a 7. -1 for being a politician anyway and -2 to leave room for improvement. So a 7.
What were Ms. Propers highschool days like?
Highschool was fun for me. I wasn’t exactly “popular” but I was cool with enough people that my highschool years were peaceful. Haha. I wouldn’t go back though because life now is too much fun.
Back To The Norm....... Ok so lets refresh our readers memories ... when can they check you out on 106 and Park?
July 13th, 2011. The show airs from 6pm-730pm Eastern Time. So prepare your phones in advance because on that date you can vote for me by sending “C” to “79922”
Also .. where can the HHO viewers buy your albums or download your mixtapes?
