M.L. aka Philly stand up. Lets face it ..Philly hasn’t been a heavy city on the hiphop map for a while. Back when the Roc was in its prime you had Beans, Young Gunz, Freeway, and State Property. You had E-ness from The Band. The Roots … Eve …Cassidy and that was one hell of a

roster. Lately nothing has been bubbling from any new talent.

Well, that is until you hear Mass. Philly rhymer Mass isn’t your typical street spitter. He has a aggressive word play, a burly voice and concepts most people wouldn’t “Fathom”. On top of being an agressive lyrical word smith Mass shows a poetic side with tracks like “Melody of a Soldier“. on his new project “Seldom Few Can Fathom”.

Mass showcases his prowess as a lyrical architect. “Seldom Few Can Fathom” is filled with great tracks like “Back Away“, in which Mass goes in …like ..he has 24 hours to live. That is a hiphop record to the fullest. Without a doubt this project is Grade A. It has Tha Advocate’s stamp on it. And to top it off it is

playworthy from front to back. Keep checking out Mass on myspace.com/therealmass or facebook.com/therealmass. Mass keeps his pages updated and when that mixtape drops you can be the first to download it free. Make sure you get your knowledge game up and understand … if not.. then only “Seldom Few Can Fathom“.

For those that don't know HipHop.org started out as Digital Mental back in the early 2k's. Back then there was an internet movement. Before most people got up on there myspace grind Digital Mental was at the fore front. One of the first rappers to bring that East Coast light to the site was Tha Advocate. Fast Forward and now its 2010. Digital Mental is back as HipHop.Org and Tha Advocate is back in the mix. Sometimes things come around full circle. Now he is bringing us a Philly rapper ... not your typical rapper.. this dude can really reallllly make music. This is an emcee. HipHop.org viewers sit back and get to know Mass.

Whats good Mass? Just livin'. Music and moves, I strive on making both of them. Glad to be here homie.

We heard you just dropped that new mixtape, "Seldom Few Can Fathom (Hosted by Tha Advocate)". That mixtape has alot of range. Pain music, Straight spitter music, Funny music, Poetic Music and even some club music. Why did you feel it was necessary to display such a diversity on there?

It was important most especially for me because Philadelphia a rtists sometimes come with the prejudice classification of only knowing how to make a certain type of music, or relying on a certain type of flow or sound. The diversity was needed as a reminder to everyone that listens to the mixtape that Eastcoast artists (particularly Philly and my other homestate Jersey) are nothing to take lightly, we can do it all hands down. Shoutouts to Advo for hosting the project.

What is a typical day like for you?
Wake up, wash, find food, if I got the money hit the liquor store for a bottle, and write music. The process of becoming a sharper lyricist and wordsmith is neverending to me. I keep my blackberry with me at all times in case inspiration strikes when I'm out and if I'm at home, I'm almost always on my laptop writing new music.

Other then music what do you do to make that paper?
I work for the state, looking after the disabled.

That's a noble thing homie. We heard you just shot a new video with Monstar Films. Can you tell us anything about that? Smooth experience. Met up with Advo in Staten Island, met up with the other artists, shoutouts Shawn Blayze, Phenom Cartel & Alkatraxx, and we all got busy doing what we do best on the set. Everyone can expect a great music video as the product of our collaborative talents.

After dropping this mixtape ... whats next?
I'm currently working on a second project that I may be entitling: "Stress Is Coming" to help usher in my third project which will be entirely produced by A.W!llz, Jay Vega & Beatsmiths. All of which are talented producers as well as good homies to me.

Coming up who were your influences in music? The first song that I ever listened to that drew me into hip-hop as a artist and not just a listener was Nas' "Got Yourself A Gun". I heard the beat, energy and display of lyricism that complimented the track in its entirety, that influenced my want to be a lyricist. I also knew a local artist around the way by the name of Narkotic, I was around 13-14 years old and he was probably 22 or something when I spit a rap for him and at my age he told me I was nicer than most 21+ year olds that he heard rapping. That just solidified my decision and determination.

How do you feel about the dudes with the tight jeans and mohawks infultrating hiphop? I feel that sh** is disgusting. Me personally, I value my comfortability, both physically and intergrity-wise. If you have to sacrifice either to belong in any group, then you just aren't keeping it real with yourself. I believe the skinny jeans, mohawks, extra colorful clothes really belong to the youths of this generation. That's their thing, that is what I believe identifies them in terms of trends and what's popular. If you're 25+ years old or 200 lbs+ rocking that, you got some serious self-reflection to engage in. But that's just me.

On "Back Away" you kinda went on a lyrical rhyme spree. Do you think being so lyrical in 2010 will get you less fans? Less? Not really. I think if anything being that lyrical sets the record straight for everyone that wants to associate themselves with my music. Be it listening to it, producing it, or collaborating with me on it. On every record I do, I make it an obligation to myself to let people know where I come from when I do this. That hunger, the smarts, everything that I am is shown on my music, its an extension of myself and I think fans appreciate that. Shoutouts to A.W!llz on the production for that record.

Out of all the songs you have ever recorded which was your favorite? and why?
I'd have to say it's between "Soul of a Struggla" or "Melody of a Soldier" the latter of the two which could be found on my mixtape "Seldom Few..." I say both of them because "Soul of a Struggla" is the first record I put down true pain and situations I was going through and am still going through on wax with no hooks or nothing, just ran it straight on one of the illest instrumentals to me: SunN.Y.'s "Soul of a Hustla" and "Melody of a Soldier" was one of my more creative concepts that allowed me to parallel the ups and mostly downs of life with being in the army.

Give us 8 of your meanest bars?!?!

(laughs), mos def. I said...

let's go, disposition contrary to dress code.../
controversial if I say I'm best so.../
dim my lights down to a lesser glow.../
you can't shine as a star near the sun, but when it dies, you'll be next to blow.../
I'm already on a pedastool.../
with a toad's tongue, any rapper that's fly, jus means he edible.../
you never been a prophet, your occupation is revenue.../
& meet the dues, by the skin of my teeth, is what i never do.../

wow!!! Ok Ok ...Last question ... Why is Mass in a class of his own??
Undoubtedly because of my ability to be all-around. I'm not afraid to tackle topics that most artist's may find too deep or too abstract and the energy that I compliment my songs with give the listeners a sense of my understanding or view on the subjects. To me, energy is that X-Factor. Yeah you could be nice as all hell, but without energy or a unique type of delivery then you're just another person who knows how to string a few words together.

ooooh yea one more thing ...tell the Hiphop.org viewers where to catch up with you on the internet?
