Lidie Bz a.k.a Lido, is a rapper and gifted writer from Oakland, California. His distinctive style, clever lyrics, and impeccable flow are what separate him from other artists. Lido knew at an early age that he wanted to make music. He had a rough time in his youth and music was his outlet; he was constantly writing and freestyling, whether at home or in school.
As a seven-year-old watching Yo’ MTV Raps, he knew for sure he wanted to be a rapper. “It was like eating candy for the first time,” he says. “It excited me, how rappers put their words together. As I got older, I began to relate to the issues, and content in their music. It was like they took parts of my life and put it in their songs.” In 2000, Lido’s journey to make his dream a reality began.
He met and began working with producer Steven King; it was a perfect collaboration. Four years later, at the Demo Fast Break convention in Las Vegas, he was offered an A&R deal with Capital Records.
Soon after this career breakthrough, a family tragedy struck: Lido’s younger brother Romell “Georgie” Mostella was killed at the age of 20. The bond Lido had with his brother was indescribable and his death was extremely difficult for Lido. By 2005, Lido was back to working on music and appearing on three mixtapes.
First, the Young Breatha Gang’s Yung n D'Restless Mixtape vol. 1, followed by Tha Advocate’s Digital Dynasty Mixtape vol. 2 (Hosted by Dtp's Willy Northpole), and then Young Breatha Gang’s 1100 Tha Set Mixtape in 2006. In 2007, Lido won first place in the “Spit Sumthin” contest on Baymusic.com. This gave him an opportunity to work with DJ Fresh and record a track with Bay Area artists Mistah Fab, J-Stalin, and Beeda Weeda. Lido is fully committed to the art he loves.
He wants to create songs that people can dance and vibe to. He understands the impact music can have. “I love how people react to my songs,” he says. “Can you imagine how you can move a whole crowd of people with your music? It’s crazy!” Lido’s ultimate goal is to, “Do something no one has ever done, like become the Michael Jackson of rap.” With new music, new outlook, and new team backing him - get ready, world. “It’s Lidie Bz Baby!”
Today HipHop.org has the honor of kicking it with an artist who is branding his name all over the map. Straight from Oakland, CA we are here with the homie Lido. He been on the grind for a long time now. Recently you may have heard him on the first single from the "Digital Dynasty" Album, with a cypher of emcees spitting 12 bars of madness. Now we are gonna chop it up wit the homie on a one on one basis. Get your seat belts fastened this is gonna be a good one.
After listening to you we came to the conclusion you have a lyrical style with a diverse flow. Most Bay Area artists go hyphy .. would you consider yourself a hyphy artist? No, I wouldn’t say I am a hyphy artist. I am a true lyricist.

How does music from the Bay area differ from artists from L.A. ? We have mob music, something we can hop out our cars to and stunt to. Whereas, LA they have that music you ride to…still gangsta but they cruising on a Sunday afternoon. In the Bay, we stunt all the time…no days off.
As an artist how had the death of your Brother effected you as an emcee? I’m more in tune with what’s going around me and people I associate myself with. My brother’s death has made me more aggressive with my music.
We are deeply saddened to hear about your family tragedy. It did raise some questions in our office and we were curious to what incident took place that your Brother from us at such an early age? The company he kept. He made a bad decision and it’s the reason why he is not with us today. He was a true friend to the people he called friend and it ultimately led to his death. He hopped in the car with his so-called friends, who had did some hot shit the day before and my brother got caught in the middle of it.
How old are you exactly? I’m in my late 20’s.
After winning the "Spit Sumthin" contest and it lead to you linking with Mistah Fab... can you let us know how it went down? What was is it like meeting Mistah Fab for the first time? I didn’t get chance to meet Fab. I believe Fab was in LA at the time and DJ Fresh emailed him the track and he recorded his verse and emailed it back to DJ Fresh and that’s how the song was completed.
How did the recording process of the song go? DJ Fresh gave me the beat, I went home and wrote to it. Then I went to Hieroglyphics’ lab and I recorded my verse.
What new mixtapes or albums are on the way? I am finishing up the Lidie Bz Y’all mixtape and I am also working on my debut album.
Give us a sneak peak into the project ..let us know what we are in store for? A lot of feel good music. Not too much violence. Reality and quality music is what my audience can expect from this project.
On Tha Advocate featuring Various Artists- The N.E.W. you spit "Going out of my mind and I aint even reach my prime/ (Lido why you aint signed?) .. well never you mind/ I'm ...taking my time ...just getting some feed back/ Oakland California where I be at" ... that verse shows your ill word play and flow. How did it feel holding weight on a record with some of the most lyrical east coast artists on the come up? The East Coast breeds emcees, so I knew I had to go all in. I approached it like it was my last shot and I had to go out with a bang. It felt great and I felt I made my mark.
On that record which artists do you think had the best verse (laughs) ? Mine of course. I liked Mass, I liked when he said, “have you riding bitch like middle part of the back seat.” And Advocate’s verse.
Who were your influences to get into music? At that time, I was listening to Bay Area artist: Seagram, Richie Rich, Cydal and East Coast artist: Jigga, 50, Big L and The Lox. They had the lyrical flow that appealed to my developing style.
Are you on a label officially ? If so let us know..... No, I am an independent artist.
How would you describe your style of hip-hop? I would say that I am lyricist. I am not a simple, nursery rhyme…ringtone rapper. I didn’t wake up yesterday and decide I wanted to be rapper. I’ve been rapping and writing rhymes since I was 7 years old. My style of hip hop has been perfecting for years.
You had a video and song drop called "Honey" a month ago. You were going in with one a monster flow and top notch lyrical world play. What type of mind state were you in making that record? When I heard the beat, I was like oh okay..its sounds sweet. So, I went in with the mind state of I can’t be defeated, can’t nobody stop me, my kool aid is sweeter than yours.
Did anyone ever tell you it kinda of has a WuTang kinda feel to it? No, but I consider it an honor for it to have a WuTang kinda feel to it, though.
Here at HipHop.org we like to ask our features some questions that really are out of the norm. We do this because it gives the fans a broader outlook on you. So lets get it cracking .... Crooked I , Raskass or The Game? The Game.
What are your feelings about the Detox album? Is it out, yet? I’m still waiting on it.
Who were your top 5 favorite east coast rappers to date? Jigga, BIG, 50, Big L, and The Lox
Back To The Norm.......Name 1 song you've done that will have the HipHop.org viewers hooked!? Honey.
