Where did your name originate from? I was originally “Young Cutless” but My name is Joey so I dropped the “Young”. I Love the Olds Cutlass and had an SL, so that got me the nickname because I was riding so clean cats would be like “SUP CUTLASS”, I just changed the spelling.

Other then music what do you do to make that paper? That’s it…I’m a producer I accepted that years ago and just work on my craft non-stop. I also publish a few blogs.
When did you first become introduced to hip-hop? NWA…I knew this is what I wanted from a really young age. When I was 5 or 6 My brother had a lot of LP’s, I actually still have them. I would sneak and listen while he was at work. Eventually at around 8, I started writing rhymes.
Coming up who were your influences in music? N.W.A. ICE-T, Bone Thugs, Outkast, Wu-tang, Nas, All the greats. Production-wise, DJ Toomp, Traxter, and Organized Noise.
What artists/people in your life intrigued you to get into the business? When I saw Pastor Troy sell 100k CDs independently from a home-made album in 98-99… I was sold. He was someone I actually knew doing music, and so go to the next level. I was amazed by his success. I used to open up for Ludacris when he was still “Chris Luva luva” as well, seeing real people succeed made this dream tangible and real. I also mentored under the world famous a Rock musician Joey Stuckey when I was 15. He taught me the Business.
How would you describe your style? I really consider it a type of Stealth-Mode. Very subliminal, and magical at the same time. I utilize a lot of special techniques to keep things interesting and fresh.
What artists are you currently working with? Currently I’m working mostly on my Film and Television Catalog for more placements on popular shows on networks like MTV, VH1, Bravo, VH1, E!, and the other majors..As far as artists I’m working on some high profile projects I can’t name at the moment…but you will see!
Who would you enjoy to work with? OUTKAST, Lol…I would like to get in the studio with Tech N9NE… Lil Wayne, his work ethic is crazy. Outside of hip-hop, Lady Gaga, & Katy Perry I’m big into producing pop music as well.
Tell us about your current projects? A lot of film and TV… Also signing other artists to my publishing company and branching out more into other genres. Also I’m doing things as far as mentoring up and coming artists. I will be speaking and mentoring at the “Hip-Hop Elementz” workshops In Ohio soon as well as other events.
What would you say makes you different than the average recording artist... Relentless work ethic…As well as Over 2000 placements in film and TV as well as billboard charting production credits.
What's currently in your CD/MP3 player? Tech N9NE, Drake, and “The Black Album” by Jay-z, Majority Rulez, and a new artists named Taj Mahal…he’s really dope
What’s your formula, how do you come up with the concepts for your material? Very unorthodox methods. Nothing really set in stone…I just push no matter what, even If I think I have writer’s block. I keep fooling around in the studio until I strike gold.
Where do you see yourself in the industry in the next 5 years? As one of the “go-to” producers topping the charts and a power player as far as Executive work with a major label signing artists and reshaping the industry from a creative and business perspective. Also giving back to the community and guiding future generations to succeed.
Where do you see the industry in 5 to 10 years? Lots of 360 deals. The industry will adapt to the decline in record sales to create revenue and keep big artists big, we are seeing that already. People want good music and wont continue to buy full cd’s to get one song. In turn record labels won’t keep wasting money manufacturing Cd’s to push mediocre numbers. That’s something that the industry will adapt to even more in the future.
