In 1985 J Martyr was born and raised in Sturgis, Kentucky. At age 16 he recorded his first song but never made it public. After high school J Martyr decided to attend Western Kentucky University to obtain a bachelors in psychology, sociology, and a minor in criminology. While there, he got into a graduate school sociology program and attended for one semester. He then dropped out of graduate school to pursue his dream to be one of the greatest artists ever and to obtain a Grammy.

There is no one in the game that is even remotely close to J Martyr’s style. But if one had to sum his style up then they would say he has the flow of Lil’ Wayne, the catchy style of Gucci Mane, the adlibs of Young Jeezy, the swagger of Juelz Santana, then sprinkle thousands of Lupe Fiasco's on top of this incredible masterpiece. J Martyr will reach the masses with his music, he has the ability to reach very young children and older adults, he can attract a wide ranged audience. What separates J Martyr from other rappers is his unique flow and wordplay, he is very melodic and can be understood by anyone, this makes him very marketable. Also, J Martyr has a very funny personality and that can be heard throughout his music, all the fun he is having and his love for music can be witnessed in his work.

J Martyr has an incredible work ethic, he works very hard and gives his all. He has a great ability to create catchy hooks and bars which will capture listeners. He is ahead of his time and has a great understanding of the world, which is a result of his education. Another skill J Martyr possesses is his understanding of what it takes to make good music and good songs, the way he has analyzed music of every genre and used it to make his music better can also been seen.

Currently J Martyr is performing in college venues in Kentucky, making a name for himself in Tennessee, Cincinnati, and expanding in Jacksonville Florida & eventually nationwide & internationally. With major digital distribution with industry giant THE ORCHARD & promotion by premier marketing firm INDIEPOWER.com , J.MARTYR is on his way!
He truly is what happens when college meets the streets!!

Today we are chilling with a new up and coming rapper named J Martyr. Lets get this cracking right away. Usually rappers are concerned with street talk and are anti establishment. What makes you want to take a stand and talk about your college experience?

The youth in this world needs some better leaders and role models. Education just allowed me to make my message more understandable. A lot of African Americans don’t take advantage of their opportunities to get a higher education. I want the youth to know that there’s nothing wrong with trying to better yourself. You can still keep it real, you don’t loose street cred, and if you succeed, you can come back and help your people get out of the situations there in.

The most you hear about Kentucky is horse racing and chicken. What is there sound respresent the most?

(Laughs) !! I really cant speak on the other artist in Kentucky. My style is totally different from all others in Kentucky and worldwide. I try to incorporate everything I have experienced and seen in my life into my music.

If you had to compare your sound and Kentucky hiphop to another form of hiphop which would it be?

I would have to compare Kentucky hip hop to the sound of artists from the Midwest and the South. That would have to be the closest comparison as far as style, beats, rhythm!

When did J Martyr realize this is what he wants to do with his life?

My whole life I was surrounded by music and people trying to make it in this game. I never really got serious with this business until I attended college. People who didn’t even know me would always try to get me to rap, or they would approach me with some kind of connect on music. I guess I looked the part, (laughs) ! I don’t know why and I really cant explain it, but something lead me to music. And its been paying off ever since. Its like this, some people try, and they want to be a musician, but with me, its like, I was chosen!

On your mixtape, "When College Meets The Streets", you boldly bridged the gap between both worlds. Do you feel closer to making street orientated music? Or the college driven Lupe Fiasco type?

I make music for everyone! I want the whole world to be my fan base! I’m the best of both worlds! I feel comfortable making all styles of music, I’m versatile! That’s the type of artist that become great! When you can appeal to all music genres, genders, ethnic backgrounds, etc. You set yourself apart from all other artist.

Do you think it's weird that in alot of hiphop that if you have a good life and college degree that you are looked at as "soft"?

Aint nuttin cool about struggling, barely making ends meet, but these things don’t make a person hard or soft. Making it thru these situations is what makes a person Hard.  I’m young but I have experienced a lot already. I’ve graduated from the streets and graduated from college. I think that makes me the worlds most dangerous black man. I got the grind of a hustler (Frank Lucas) and a mind like Einstein!

Can you tell us what exactly Kurrupt Kommonwealth (the company) is?

Kurrupt Kommonwealth Baby!! That’s my record label/company. We are all from the Commonwealth of Kentukcy. The commonwealth states are corrupt, just like all the other states, (laughs)! But we still love and rep where we are from! And the “K’s” represent Kentucky.  What up Kentucky!!! I’m about to put the “K” on the map!!

Do you have any other artists on the label other then yourself?

My right-hand man-K Preece, Super producer-J Mc da G, super producer- Breeze, super producer- J Lan, sound engineer/producer- Nastinate, L-Dubs, producer- Geek, producer- J Quik, male vocalist-Dee, Manager- Cliffnotes

What is coming next from J Martyr?

Finishing up my new album that will drop next year “Kurrupt Kommonwealth Presents J Martyr: The Voice of the College Hustler”  I have also been working closely with Def Jam recording artist Phyzikal on a lot of up and coming projects. Just stay tuned, J Martyr has a lot in store for the world!!

You spit "100 miles per hour in the shoulder lane/ this flow you gotta feel or you numb like novacaine/ I'm so out my brain/ " ... when you write anthem music like that ..what type of mindstate are you in?

I just get in my zone!! It comes easy to me, I was built for this. My metaphors and word play is crazy. I want the world to feel me, and feel my flow! I just try to throw everything I experience, feel, and see into my rhymes. I try to incorporate everything, that way listeners will relate to something I say!

Out of all your music which song is the most vulnerable and introspective of them all?

The Hangover (I got drunk last night)! On the “When College Meets the Streets” album.

When you wrote "Golpher Wood", was your agenda to secure a Kentucky fanbase or reach the masses?

That track was aimed toward Kentucky and Midwest/southern hip hop listeners. I try to make certain tracks regional, and make my singles for the masses.

Here at HipHop.org we like to ask our features some questions that really are out of the norm.We do this because it gives the fans a broader outlook on you.So lets get it cracking ....Lets GOOO! Do you think TI deserves to go back to jail for the drug possession (while he was out on parole)?

Na!! I think there’s other things our world needs to focus on, or other things we can use these government dollars for. There’s killers, child molesters, etc. out there, lets lock them up. I feel we need to get the real criminals!!!

What are your favorite sports teams?

I love All Kentucky Teams!! UK, UL, WKU, Lets go!!! I know my UK fans are gonna kill me for this, but Im a BIG Duke Fan, yeh I love the Blue Devils, (laughs)! NFL-I’m a Vikings fan. NBA- I cant really pick a team because I have so many favorite players, but when I was younger I was a big Penny Hardaway fan, so I guess if I had to pick a team it would be the Orlando Magic, but I really don’t have a favorite NBA team, I have favorite players. Im a big Kevin Garnett Fan, shout out to my big cousin KG, what up fam!! NHL- Im a Sidney Crosby fan. MLB- I’m a Marlins fan! I love sports!!

Is Obama doing a good job?
(Laughs) !! I don’t really get into the whole politics talk because people get so sensitive about that subject. But in my opinion, our nation was in such a bad state that it will take a while for everything to return to normal. Therefore, I believe he’s doing the best job in the situation he was given.

Howard Stern or Star and Bucwild?
