Gengis Khan (GK), lyrically paints a portrait with creative delivery, raw passion, and a diverse flow. He has the ability to captivate crowds with his energy, charisma, and intelligent wordplay. His freestyle, one of his signature traits, showcases his talent in a way rarely seen. GK represents not only hip hop, but…music. Whether he’s bringing you the gritty realities of the street, to the lavish tales of success and all that come with it, GK speaks the truth. Originally from San Francisco, CA, GK has never lost touch of his Bay Area roots. He proudly acknowledges his hometown, never forgetting where he came from.
Though a product of California, that is not all that defines him. His complex layers are displayed throughout his rhymes, and are for everyone. His love of music came at a young age when he first heard and was inspired by Eric B. & Rakim. Even back then he knew hip hop was going to be his forum for expression. Being a lover of all music, only added to the dynamic fashion in which he would do it. When you listen to GK, you can not only hear, but feel his raw emotion and power through his lyrics. In 2010 he really took hold and notice on “Top Of The World”.
This collaboration with STAL aka Stallion and Premo Vera, has been steadily gaining steam in the underground circuit and internet radio. With mixtape appearances (DJ Gemstarr “Gangsta Sh*t Radio 2” & Da Hitman’s Unique Style Vol 17) GK has been setting the table for his own project in 2011. There are no limitations or barriers stopping him from reaching his goals…and beyond. His music represents real; real life, real truth, a real man. GK
Today HipHop.org has the honor of kicking it with an artist who is branding his name all over the United States. Straight from the west coast we are with Gengis Khan. We are about to pick homies brain and see what he is about ..get ready!
For starts can you tell us the origin of your name? Awe mayne, well my original moniker was "Sher Khan" king of the jungle. You know the tiger from the “Jungle book”. I guess this name just evolved from a fictitious character, to a historic figure that actually changed the world. Gengis was one of the greatest conquerers if not the greastest of them all! I felt that my clever word play and deliberate delivery deserved to be Imperial as well!
We know you spent a good part of your life in San Fran. Now where in Cali do you call home? Yeah I'm from Frisco, but I'm still here in the Bay here in Vallejo. Just 25 minutes away from the "City".
Alot of Cali artists we have interviewed before lived that street life. Some still do and some left it in the past. Does Gengis rep a set? A young black man comin' up in my day, the street life was nearly impossible to escape! Where I’m from errbody ran the streets @ some capacity. whether it killin', dealin', or pimpin. Errbody need to eat! yeah I rep northern cali. the bay to be exact, the home of the struggle the birth place of crack!

One thing that interested us alot was when you sited one of your main inspirations being Eric B and Rakim. How was it a young emcee on the rise from Cali could relate so well to one of New Yorks best emcees to date? Man back in the day Rakim was the first to combine the style the lyrics and the science in one swag; you could say.
How did the East Coast stories Ra spoke about parrel with GK's life on the west? Back then the music was just too raw and relevant to kids in the ghetto to just be felt by a geographical region.
Are you on a label? If so let us know..... No. I’m on the Indy tip, but I know the sky is the limit.
When you dropped "Top Of The World", did you think it would recieve such a great internet buzz and success? I knew that it would make some noise, because its fire from beginning to end, but not as much as it has. You know my boy Stal whom I hadn’t heard from in months, approached me for a 16 for a single called "Top of the World" and the rest is history.
Are you trying to stay low key on the underground and make your paper that way or head to fame and the "Top Of The World"? where ever the lord directs me. right now I’m gone grind on the under until the world is ready for ya boi.
Word is you have a project you will be dropping in 2011... Lets talk about that... Is there a title yet? I’m leaning towards calling it KHANQWEST
Is it an album or mixtape? well I’m really working on both types of projects right now
Release date? No release date just yet, but hopefully sometime in the 2nd quarter.
Can you describe us some of the material that will be on there? man it’s going to vary from gritty street tracks to club bangers to songs dealing with more social issues facing the public today.
How would you describe your style of hip-hop? Ice Cold Fire Water! Original and too explosive to labeled
"Who" is a crazy song .. what made you write something like that? I just felt like bay has been overlooked in the industry on a mainstream level for the last 15 years. Knowing of all the contributions and inovations that allow the big artists to get them them big dollars I wanted to bring that attention.
When someone listens to some of your tracks it seems like you have that West Coast swag ... with a twist of a Spice 1 flow with some East Coast style punchlines... do you agree with our analysis? well I can’t really dispute it! I draw inspiration from so many different artists and genres. you won’t hear the same thing twice, you can damn near bet
Here at HipHop.org we like to ask our features some questions that really are out of the norm. We do this because it gives the fans a broader outlook on you. So lets get it cracking .... How do you feel about President Obama compromising with the Republicans about lowering taxes for the millionaires? Man in this society, ain’t shit for free! you gotta give to get. That’s why it’s called politics. I mean for real change, and not just band- aids for the quick temporary fix, It’s gonna take some time as the man explained in his 2008 campaign. So I’m not discouraged by this in the least.
As a west coast rapper ... how do you feel about Dr. Dre and Snoops new single "Kush" ? I like it a lot. that shit bang. But they should have called it "GrandDaddy"! that’s the preferred dark purple strain of weed in the Bay. Kush played out earlier in the decade. But the song go hard!
Back To The Norm....... Name 1 song you've done that will have the HipHop.org viewers hooked!? I would say that "Ghetto Girl" is a definite anthem, but “I Do” is going to blow them out of the water!
Thanks for hollering at us and in closing give any shoutouts....links to your sites....F.U.'S or whatevers clever? yeah I wanna acknowledge Allah for allowin myself a chance express my voice to the masses.
