Bad News is a producer/emcee/director. Credited for walking between different genres without losing his street style and concious frame of mind.
Tell our readers, where your from.. Africa , technically… and Queens NYC
Where did your name originate from? It was given to me amongst friends after a couple cyphers and drunk nights, so I just switched it to BAD NEWS from my old emcee name.
What is a typical day like for you? Wake up and thank god for what I have thus far. I think about my son and what I need to do for him, it drives me to get up and go to work or make music. Recently Ive been drinking ciroc instead of hennesy wit my bro’s at the end of the day. Take it in late and wake up early to do it again.
Other then music what do you do to make that paper? I film and edit music videos for upcoming artist, hit the slaveship 9 - 5, produce tracks, and run a growing website called thewakeuppill.com.
When did you first become introduced to hip-hop? When I was real small my big brothers and cousins would leave me behind cause I was the youngest boy. I would stay in my oldest cousins room, he had genesis, and a ton of cassette tapes. He had everyone’s album at least I thought cause I knew so little. I would pop in a tape and play video games when I knew he wasn’t coming back. This was bound to happen.
Coming up who were your influences in music? I cant really pinpoint 1 specific rapper. The whole culture I was fascinated with even down to the way the artist moves in his video. If I say anything the early 90’s era I love the most.
I feel like this is just meant to be .Im not really enthusiastic about anything so no one had to push me into something I feel so passionate about.
How would you describe your style? Revolutionary minus the preachy plus the street times the passion.
What artists are you currently working with? I have a soul singer im producing named K mel. I’m 1/4th the group Real Recognize Real. That’s me Spec Dolla, Kev G, V.I. check thewakeuppill.com to explain further.
Who would you enjoy to work with? I cant really say anybody. Id have to meet you and vibe with you. So that doesn’t include names but doesn’t exclude anyone.
Tell us about your current projects? I have a free album out called THE MISCONCEPTION OF BAD NEWS. Its produced by me and my go to guy V.I.. Free download on thewakeuppill.com. My next free album A BETTER TOMORROW is done im just waiting for the right time to drop it.
What one reason would your fans say separates you from the norm? One thing they respect is the variety and the versatility. I have many styles, moods, and sounds but they don’t contradict each other.
What shows do you currently have lined up for fall? You would just have to subscribe to the website and stay tuned.
What would you say makes you different than the average recording artist... I produce my own tracks and film my own videos. Yes there are others that do the same but very few. Artist’ like me can give you the complete vision to a song.
What's currently in your CD/PHONE/TABLET/MP3 player? Hahaha CD player!
What’s your formula, how do you come up with the concepts for your material? It usually comes to me when someone says something to me or something happens to me. I let life help me and stay true to what I know and live.
Where do you see yourself in the industry in the next 5 years? I know im gonna kick up dust. I work to be a legend so sky is the limit. 5 years that’s at least a good 2 classic commercial albums.
Where do you see the industry in 5 to 10 years? Im excited to see how the music will evolve. A lot more rappers sing now, theres a heavy skateboard punk influence. Hip Hop is practiced in more countries. So I think the production is going to change and feel more live. I also see more independence with the internet being a tool for everyone not just the major labels.
If you had to choose one track that will have HipHop.Org readers hooked, which track would it be? On my album THE MISCONCEPTION OF BAD NEWS the intro track “Mama Im a Rebel”. Produced by V.I.
Do you have any final words, shoutouts, etc for our community..? I just want to send much love to hiphop.org and THANK YOU to the whooooole F***ing world. Thewakeuppill.com
