Ace Reyes was born and raised in Queens, NY. He was raised mainly by his mother; he did have a stepfather and his real father was incarcerated most of his life. Through much adversity, Ace Reyes tried to overcome bad influences and do good in school. School has panned out pretty good for Ace Reyes; overcoming bad influences did not. Growing up in any hood will have a significant impact on a person’s life, and this was no different for Ace Reyes. By age 10, Ace Reyes had seen his father arrested, heard gunshots outside his window, and witnessed many fights. It was enough to make the strongest person buckle. One thing Ace Reyes always had was strong support from his mother and it gave him a good head on his shoulders, for the most part. At age 14, through his family’s doing, Ace Reyes was able to leave the hood temporarily and move to a suburb down south in Florida. He spent three years in this new environment, which gave him much insight on people and life and gave him a chance to get his high school diploma.

It was his last year and a half in this new place where he developed a crew, a connect and began hustling, needing money and going off what he seen many people doing back in New York. Maybe it was genetic, maybe it was picked up quick from his old hood, but Ace Reyes would sell everything from weed, coke, and crack, to colonopins, oxycontin, xanax bars, and ecstacy. At age 17 Ace Reyes left to Miami, FL,

where he was back in a familiar urban society. It was here Ace Reyes would start attending college and it was here where Ace Reyes would hit his peak of hustling, and then his downfall. Participating not only in selling drugs, but hitting licks and counterfeit money, Ace Reyes was in the fast lane. However, eventually it caught up to him and he slipped up, getting arrested and sent to Dade County Jail for a week before finally posting bail. Due to a technicality the charges would later be thrown out and Ace Reyes would only suffer legal fees. Ace Reyes took this as a wake-up call and decided to change his life for the better.

Since then he has released three mixtapes which display his emotions, experience, and lessons learned. He has numerous LEGAL hustles that bring in good money. He has also attained his Associates Degree in Business and is pursuing his Bachelors. Ace Reyes is a living proof that coming from the hood doesn’t have to have a negative impact in your life. He is also living proof that the get back can be prosperous and change you for the better. Ace Reyes doesn’t claim to be a kingpin drug dealer or the most thugged out hardcore person in the world, but through his life and experiences he is one of the realest people you will ever get a chance to listen to. His past choices represent his past situations, and his current actions are transcended into his words that you hear in his music

Exclusive Interview

Where you living, where you holdin it down?
Currently I’m out in Florida pursuing higher learning and been here for a little minute but I’m born and raised in Queens, NY. I love the sunshine state don’t get it twisted, but my hearts in NYC.

What is the significance of your name?
It kind of has a double meaning. Ace Reyes is the name I went by when I was hustling. I didn’t want people knowing my gov. Ace is an acronym for “About Cash Everyday” and Reyes means “kings” in Spanish. So when people heard my name they knew whats up. So when I started freestyling, ciphering and recording, people asked what I went by, I just used my street tag.

When did you first become introduced to hip hop? Shoot I’m from hip hop’s home so you know it was instant. As soon as I could appreciate music I was a hip hop fan. Probably like six years old and on. I started writing lyrics at like 11 years old, and started freestyling by 15 or 16.

What artists/people in your life intrigued you to get into the business? Lyrically, it was everyone from living legends like Jay-z, Nas, and Eminem to the past legends like Biggie, Big Pun, Pac, and Big L. Listening to their classic albums helped me step my game up when I first started writing rhymes. As far as actually getting into the business, it was my own doing. It was the fact that whenever I was down or going through some shit, hip hop was there for me and always had a song for my mood or my emotions. So I took that and ran with it…..Now I make music that people will always feel no matter where you from or who you are.

How would you describe your style? Hard hitting, lyrical assault and battery. I murder every beat and the flow I have to go along with my rhyme style is bananas. Other MCs ain’t gotta like me or feel me but they WILL respect me. They got no choice if real recognize real.

What artists are you currently working with?
Normally I work solo but I love to see what other artists bring to the table. The past three years I have done songs with Rapz, Dizzy, Trey Duce, Robby Rhythmz, Rayel, Tha Advocate, and some more that can’t come to mind right now. I have some possible projects in the works with Bright Future Boys and possibly Rayel, Trey Duce and his team. I get it in!

Who would you enjoy to work with?
The lyrical beasts of the game; Jay-z, Eminem, Jadakiss, Fabolous, Juelz Santana, Lil Wayne, Drake, I mean the list goes on. You ain’t gotta be famous, If you nice I’ll gladly spit with you but if I rip you…..don’t take it personal ya dig

Tell us about your current projects? Well I’ve been featured on many other mixtapes and have dropped solo mixtapes in the past 3 years but my latest project is “PROPHET FOR A PROFIT”. It dropped February 28, 2010 and I personally think it’s my best work to date. I have gotten great feedback from it and I hope the hiphop.org community feels it too. If you like ill lyrics and real music you gonna like that mixtape. I’m currently rolling that out both online and in the streets. To listen to Prophet for a Profit you can check it out in the mixtape section here at HipHop.Org

What single are you promoting the most?
I dropped “Hating On Me” back in December for my ballers and hustlers who get hated on by broke lames, dropped “Life Sometimes” in January for my people who sometimes feel like they hit rock bottom when shit in life ain’t going right. I dropped “Hold You Down” on Valentines Day for the lovers and couples out there. Next and last single will probably be “Get It In” featuring Trey Duce. Peep that joint it go harrrd.

Who is doing the production?
All production is Promotional Use Only from EmotionL Beats. Check him out on soundclick, homie got skills.

What producers would you enjoy to work with?
No producers in particular, if the beat is hot I’m on it and I’ll rip it…..no pressure.

What one reason would your fans say seperates you from the norm?
I am 100% truthful with myself and with the people….I don’t front….I don’t say shit that don’t apply to me. I never lie, I bare my whole soul in my music. I don’t care about or stress whatever negative views people may have about me. They can go lay down on the highway during rush hour for all I care. I’m not doing what everyone else is doing, if you listen to my last mixtape “Kilo Stilo” you’ll know what I mean. I put my emotions and real life stories into this.

Will you be doing any touring? Haha if the opportunity rises I’ll take it but for now I’m just doing some local shows and promoting the tape hard body. Nothing too crazy….yet.

What shows/events do you have lined up for summer 2010?
Well I just performed at Club 57 West in Orlando, FL about 2 weeks ago for Soul of the City. I got some other things lined up but nothing I can speak of right now.

What would you say makes you different from the average MC?
Like I said, I’m super lyrical and I use this gift of having a way with words to reach people and make music people can relate to. Of course I got that hustler and club music, but my forte is reaching people because I put my emotions and experiences into this music. I change up my content and concepts. A lot of these rappers are just using the same 3 topics, bitches, money, and drugs. That’s cool I love bitches, money, and drugs, but step ya game up homie. Real Talk

What emcee's do you currently listen to?
Any one who rips it, I listen to classic MCs of course, but I’m bumping Slaughterhouse, Juelz Santana, Fabolous, Jadakiss, Weezy, Drake, My boy Rapz, and myself of course.

What’s your formula, how do you come up with the concepts for your material? My life is my inspiration along with my emotions, my thoughts, my views, my opinions, and in some cases my friends and family. Everything going on around me is what motivates me to write about certain issues or certain things on my mind.

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years in hip-hop?
Hopefully signed, if not its all gravy. I do this because I’m nice and I do it for the love of the game. All I can guarantee in 5 years is more mixtapes, more growth, more real shit in my music. Definitely more money whether it comes from hip hop, side hustles, or school. Bet that

Where do you see hip-hop in 5 to 10 years?
It’s been evolving the past 15 years, so in 10 years I see more innovation and more evolution coming soon. I am excited to see where it goes from here, and I hope I play

What final words do you have for our community and the prospects of hip hop?
Aiyyo straight up I don’t claim to be the baddest or a gangsta or anything I’m not. I’m a hustler Ima get mine regardless and I am one of the nicest if not THE NICEST MC in the underground scene right now.
